Sharonlea Childcare and Pre-primary

Sharonlea Childcare and Pre-primary is an independent school in Sharonlea, Randburg that provides high-quality early childhood development for children from 3 months to 5 years with a focus on the ELDAs. As a Curro Select school, our small class sizes allow dedicated teachers to engage each child in our internally developed play-based curriculum and to build strong, caring relationships with each child.

Our school is affiliated with Northriding College, which is another Curro Select school specialising in early childhood development. Visit their website to view their offerings.

What do we offer?

At Sharonlea Childcare and Pre-primary, we created a safe, nurturing centre of learning for children from 3 months to 5 years. Our carefully designed classrooms and engaging playgrounds encourage children to explore a wide variety of experiences through play and developmental activities, aimed at developing a curious mind and creative thinking. Children learn from their environments, which is why our classrooms themselves are considered to be a third teacher of sorts. Therefore, our classrooms are designed to be visually pleasing and encourage sensory development.

Our childcare centre accommodates children up to 3 years, while the pre-primary phase accommodates learners up to 5 years. With small class sizes, age-appropriate playgrounds, and healthy meals and snacks, we focus on developing the child as a whole. Our classes are divided by age group, and each teacher has a teacher’s assistant, depending on the number of children in the class.

We focus on the ELDAs

Our internally developed nursery school programme is designed with the Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs) in mind. The programme is designed to stimulate physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being through developmental activities and engaging play areas.

The programme incorporates the latest research in physical and cognitive development, such as encouraging loose-parts play that boost creativity and curiosity, above playing with single-purpose toys. As a Curro Select school, our children also benefit from having music as part of their everyday activities.

Furthermore, our early drop-off time allows working parents to drop their children at school from 06:30, and collect them no later than 18:00.

Which activities do we offer?

We believe that participation in extramural activities plays an important role in promoting friendship and self-confidence in addition to physical and social well-being. Many of our activities are designed to help learners learn valuable skills that require more time for development than can be provided during the daily programme.

How do we ensure safety in our school?

Our strict security measures ensure the safety of our children. Access to the campus is restricted through biometric access, while CCTV cameras monitor classrooms and playgrounds, while visitors need to sign in at reception. Children are collected from the classroom and are signed out on daily registers to ensure that they remain safe and accounted for.
