Reception phase

Foundation phase: Group 5 to Grade R

At Curro Thatchfield our Early Childhood Development centre caters for learners in Group 5 (5years old) and Grade R (six years old).

In this phase we focus on four principles:

  1. The unique learner:  Curro recognises that every child is a competent learner from birth and can be resilient, capable, confident, and self-assured.
  2. Positive relationships: learners learn to be strong and independent from a foundation of loving and secure relationships with parents and/or a key person (educator).
  3. Enabling environments: our environment plays a key role in supporting and extending a learner’s development and learning.
  4. Learning and development: our learners develop and learn in different ways and at different rates, and all areas of learning and development are of equal importance and are inter-connected.

We have created a centre of learning where learners can realise their full potential by providing a comprehensive, individual-orientated educational programme of the highest standard.

Curro Thatchfield provides a sound foundation for carrying out the tasks and meeting the challenges of future learning.

We create an environment of opportunity where the learner acquires general knowledge, the right attitudes and ethical and moral principles.

We encourage and teach each learner social and life skills in a warm and loving environment.

We acknowledge that each learner is an individual and we allow them to work at their own pace.

We create a sound and safe environment where each learner is extended and growth is encouraged academically, socially, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Our learners participate in outings, educational visits, concerts, fun days and graduation, to list a few.

We teach children to be critical and creative thinkers.
