Curro Oakdene is an independent primary school in Oakdene, Johannesburg that provides high-quality education for learners from 2 years to Grade 3, with higher grades phasing in annually. Our small class sizes and enhanced curriculum empower learners with 21st-century skills and knowledge to grow into self-confident individuals and to reach their personal and educational goals.
What do we offer?
At Curro Oakdene, we balance academic excellence with sports- and cultural well-being, thereby ensuring that learners develop into well-rounded individuals. Our nursery school offers a safe, nurturing environment where dedicated teachers and assistants engage children in weekly themed programmes. These programmes are designed with the Early Learning and Development Areas in mind and aim to encourage holistic development. Our small class sizes and enhanced curriculum provide a strong basis in the foundation phase through specialised programmes (such as the Bazoo integrated literacy programme) and continues to build the skills and knowledge required to succeed later on in primary school.
Our enhanced curriculum provides learners with 21st-century skills, while our classrooms and facilities are fitted with state-of-the-art tools. Specialised activities such as yoga and dance further help learners gain physical dexterity and mental control.
We are Robotics-inclusive
Our dedicated teachers give learners personal attention in the classroom, which helps to ensure that they achieve to the best of their abilities. Our learners further benefit from specialised subjects such as Robotics, and having Afrikaans and isiZulu as additional language options in foundation phase.
Which activities do we offer?
We believe that participation in activities plays an important role in promoting health, team-awareness, discipline and self-confidence in addition to physical and social well-being. Therefore, we offer a wide variety of sports and cultural activities aimed at helping learners discover their inherent talents and broaden their exposure beyond their current reference framework. These activities are generally included in the school fees.
How do we use technology in the classroom?
At Curro Oakdene, we embrace 21st-century learning by using tablets in the classroom in intermediate phase once phased in. Rather than heavy textbooks, learners use software to view and study from an e-book, which also allows them to collaborate easily and securely with teachers and peers. Using innovative technology allows teachers to provide a wealth of information at the touch of a button and better prepares learners for the workplace of the future.
