Intermediate phase: Grades 4 to 7
Sport at Curro Krugersdorp is a unique experience for all our learners. We believe in the overall development of each individual and we ensure that sport forms an integral part of the unique balance of body, mind and spirit. It is vital for the learners to participate in the sports activities every afternoon (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday). We believe that every child should be exposed to as many different sporting codes as possible, giving them an opportunity to be more specialised as they move on.
We aim to be competitive with as many schools as possible, with the emphasis not necessarily on winning, but on the way in which the game is played. We have adopted the approach of ‘Let the Children Play’, as we feel it is vitally important that children have fun and enjoyment in whatever sport they partake in. This being said, coaching is taken very seriously, and each individual is pushed to reach their optimum potential.
All of the areas work very closely together to ensure that each learner is afforded the best opportunity to excel at their chosen sport and to pave the way towards future sporting careers.
Curro Krugersdorp offers athletics to learners from Grades R to 7. A total of 18 events are currently offered to learners. Athletes must select their three best events in which they will participate at friendly athletics events and cluster meetings.

A private chess coach has been employed to offer chess to learners at Curro Krugersdorp. A beginner’s class will be available to teach learners the basic skills of playing chess. The chess coach will identify the skill of each learner individually and develop them accordingly. Once a learner has mastered the beginner’s class, they will be in a position to advance to the next level through the SJ Chess Academy. This is an independent academy contracted to Curro Krugersdorp to advance the skill of our chess players. The costs involved for advancing to the academy will not be carried by Curro Krugersdorp and is for the player’s own account.
Swimming is not coached at the school, but we do enter competent and coached swimmers into the league.
