Curro Castle Waterfall
Curro Castle Waterfall is an independent nursery school and early childhood care centre adjacent to Waterfall Country Estate, Midrand that provides high-quality education for children from 3 months to 5 years with a focus on the Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs).
Our school is on a separate campus from Curro Waterfall Primary and High School to improve access control and ensure the children’s safety on the playground. Our school is divided into two buildings – each designed to accommodate the specific needs of the infant care programme and nursery school phase.
What do we offer?
At Curro Castle Waterfall we created a safe, nurturing centre of learning. Our carefully designed classrooms and playgrounds encourage children to explore a wide variety of experiences through play and developmental activities, aimed at developing a curious mind and creative thinking.
The small class sizes allow our dedicated teachers and assistants to engage each child in the internally developed play-based curriculum and to build strong, caring relationships with each child. Our school opens at 07:00 to accommodate working parents while our full-day children are kept busy until 17:30 (half day ends at 13:30).
Our classes are designed to support developmentally-appropriate care
Our classes are divided by age group to support developmentally-appropriate care and learning and each class has its own co-teacher. We provide care for babies and toddlers from 3 months up to and including 2 years in the early childhood care centre while the Group 3s (the year a child turns 3) engage in a play-based programme where exploration of the learning environment, language learning, communication and social skills are integrated in their playful day.
The nursery school continues to grow and develop the learning of the Group 4s and Group 5s in a playful structured way based on a daily routine aligned with the curriculum.
We focus on the ELDAs
Our nursery school programme is designed with the Early Learning and Development Areas (ELDAs) in mind. The programme is designed to stimulate physical, social, emotional and cognitive well-being through developmental activities and engaging play areas.
Furthermore, our programme incorporates the latest research in physical and cognitive development, such as encouraging loose parts play that boost creativity and curiosity.
Which activities do we offer?
We believe that participation in extramural activities plays an important role in promoting friendship and self-confidence in addition to physical and social well-being. Our school’s focus is on age- and developmentally-appropriate activities that meet the needs of the children. Extramural service providers are screened and adjudicated with certain criteria in mind so as to ensure the health, well-being and safety of the children in our Castle setting.
How do we ensure safety in our school?
Our strict security measures ensure the safety of our children. Access to the campus is restricted through biometric access, while CCTV cameras monitor the playgrounds as well as classrooms. Visitors need to sign in to gain access and the number of visitors per class is limited. Children are collected from the classroom and are signed in and out daily to ensure that they remain safe and accounted for.
We also have a registered nurse on-site who further ensures that our children are safe and healthy.
