Curro Castle Roodeplaat
Curro Castle Roodeplaat is an independent school in Kameeldrift, Pretoria that provides high-quality early childhood development for children from 3 years to 5 years. Our small class sizes allow dedicated teachers to engage each child in our internally developed play-based curriculum and to build strong, caring relationships with each child.
Our school is on the same campus as Curro Roodeplaat, which allows children to easily progress from nursery school to primary school in a familiar environment, However, our building is separate from the primary and high school buildings to improve access control and ensure the children’s safety on the playground.
What do we offer?
At Curro Castle Roodeplaat we created a safe, nurturing centre of learning for children. Our carefully designed classrooms and engaging playgrounds encourage children to explore a wide variety of experiences through play and developmental activities, aimed at developing a curious mind and creative thinking.
Our classes are divided by age group and each teacher has one or more class assistants, depending on the number of children in the class. Furthermore, our internally developed programme incorporates the latest research in physical and cognitive development, such as encouraging loose-parts play that boost creativity and curiosity, above playing with single-purpose toys. The programme even includes activities built around large soft bricks that form the important early foundations for later Robotics studies.
We also welcome and encourage parent involvement and often host parent workshops and special days, such as ‘hot chocolate day’, to ensure our parents know that they are an important part of the Curro Castle Roodeplaat family.
Furthermore, our early drop-off times allow parents to drop their children at school from 07:00 and our afternoon waiting class keeps children busy until 14:00. We also offer aftercare to accommodate working parents and children can be collected until 16:30.
Which activities do we offer?
We believe that participation in extramural activities plays an important role in promoting friendship and self-confidence in addition to physical and social well-being. Many of our activities are designed to help learners learn valuable skills that require more time for development than can be provided during the daily programme.
We also have a diversity activity once a month to teach children about kindness, acceptance and self-worth.
How do we ensure safety in our school?
Our strict security measures ensure the safety of our children. Access to the campus is restricted through biometric access, while CCTV cameras monitor our reception area. Visitors need to sign in to gain access. Children are collected from the classroom and are signed in and out daily to ensure that they remain safe and accounted for.
All of our teachers and assistants have CPR and level 1 first-aid training and the medical office of Dr Surene Fourie is within close vicinity to help us keep all children healthy and safe.
