SUNNETTE VILJOEN, a 2012 Olympic competitor and world champion athlete, visited Curro Mossel Bay in October. Learners and teachers alike were super excited to meet this special young lady.

Dynamite truly comes in small packages: she had recently won the World Championships in javelin with her momentous effort of 69,53 m, after her disappointment at the Olympics in London.

Some of the Grade 10s were thoroughly impressed with her biceps and triceps muscles, a happy result of her daily efforts to prepare for her recent competitions. This nominee for Miss Congeniality happily gave hugs and autographs to primary and high-school 'fans' and posed for hundreds of photos. Sunette is an inspiration to all!

After she had addressed the learners with her inspirational story about her successes and failures in life, she took charge on the rugby field, coaching interested learners in javelin. Learners from neighbouring schools also attended a workshop in the afternoon to refine their javelin throwing skills. Hey, it’s not every day you get to work with such a star athlete!
Hats off Sunette!
