Henk Anthony Weyers obtained his teaching qualification at the Boland Teachers College in Wellington. He started his teaching career in the South African schools system in Parow and Kuilsriver, before embarking on a teaching adventure in the Far East. He taught English to students with ages ranging from 2 to 65, which afforded him a well-balanced perspective of educational institutions in the area. Taiwan provided a valuable insight into the international perspective and global vision of education and the integral part it plays in the lives of the fastest growing economy in the world. Wishing to extend this 'international mindedness', he continued his journey to the United Kingdom, first in the state-maintained sector and finally settling in the independent sector, based in Chiswick, West London.
He joined the prestigious Alpha Plus Group Ltd in 2004, which owns and operates around 22 independent schools and colleges in and around London. He obtained a Post Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Management in Education at the University of Sheffield Hallam. He returned to South African shores in April 2013 as the principal of the International Helderberg School in Somerset West, which offers the Cambridge International Curriculum from early years to A-levels.
Mr Weyers is an avid sportsman and believes in a well-rounded education with a solid, world-class academic foundation. Sports and the outdoors are a passion of his and he has participated and coached most of the traditional sports codes. His current extramural interests include tennis, golf, snowboarding, motorcycling and mountain biking, although surfing and baseball are next on the list. He is married, with four young children, the youngest of which is a Golden Retriever named Kingston.
