Intermediate phase sports

Intermediate phase: Grades 4 to 7

Participation in sport and the role of physical development are based on the ethos of Curro Kathu. This is to ensure that all learners are educated in totality and to create opportunities as far as possible for each learner to develop as an individual. It is therefore important that learners are encouraged to participate in sport. 

Athletics 

Each year starts with athletics in the first week. 

Inter-house athletics: 

Curro Kathu hosts an inter-house athletics event over two days, with the field items on the first day and the track events the next day. We make a huge success of the day and our athletes participate enthusiastically against each other. 

Netball 

Curro Kathu enters a team in the Van Druten schools league. 

At Curro Kathu our netball girls get the opportunity to compete in a healthy, organised manner and we try to develop a love for the game among our girls. 

We offer a netball clinic by Alto Petro Netball Clinic. 

We also offer the only mini-rugby and mini-netball day in our region. 

Provincial players: 

  • Kalinke Botma – Northern Cape Country team 
  • Katinka van Heerden – Curro Disa team 
  • Cala Cronje – Curro Disa team 

Hockey 

Curro Kathu will have a team in each age group in 2017. 

At Curro Kathu our hockey girls get the opportunity to compete in a healthy, organised manner and we try to develop a love for the game among our girls. 

Provincial players: 

  • Kayleigh Stone Street - Northern Cape Country Districts 
  • Palesa Malinga – Northern Cape Country Districts 
  • Kiara Lechet – Northern Cape Country Districts 

Rugby 

Curro Kathu enters a team in each age group in the Van Druten schools league. 

At Curro Kathu our rugby boys get the opportunity to compete in a healthy, organised manner and we try to develop a love for the game among our boys.  

Cricket 

Curro Kathu’s teams enter in each age group in the Kalahari high school league. 

At Curro Kathu our cricket boys get the opportunity to compete in a healthy, organised manner and we try to develop a love for the game among our boys. 

Soccer 

Curro Kathu has a soccer team in every age group in our school and they perform very well. In 2016, our under 12 and under 14 teams participated in the Kathu Soccer Challenge for the second year, and our under 8 soccer team is the Kathu Super Spar Champions. 

At Curro Kathu our soccer boys get the opportunity to compete in a healthy, organised manner and we try to develop a love for the game among our boys. 

Tennis 

At Curro Kathu our tennis-playing boys and girls get the opportunity to compete in a healthy, organised manner and we try to develop a love for the game among our learners. 

We have top-quality players and also offer private coaching by Daniel Gericke, one of the Kalahari's top tennis coaches.
