  • ARE THE SCHOOLS REGISTERED WITH THEIR RESPECTIVE EDUCATION DEPARTMENTS?

According to law, all private schools must register at their local provincial education departments. All our schools are registered or are in the process of being registered. This process is time consuming, because facilities must be created and staff must be employed first before the process may commence. All private schools must also be accredited by Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General & Further Education and Training.

  • DO CURRO AND MERIDIAN PRIVATE SCHOOLS HAVE CATCHMENT AREAS?

No.  Learners from all areas are welcome at all Curro Private Schools and Meridian Private Schools.

  • WHAT ARE THE SCHOOL FEES?

Enrolment fees and school fees vary from school to school for various specific reasons. Curro Established Private Schools, Curro Traditional Private Schools, Curro Junior Academies and Meridian Private Schools all operate on different scales.   • WHAT IS THE LANGUAGE MEDIUM OF THE SCHOOLS?

Curro Established Private Schools are English medium.

Curro Traditional Private Schools are either English or English and Afrikaans medium.  English and Afrikaans medium schools are parallel medium (Afrikaans and English in seperate classes) up to Gr 9 and dual medium (Afrikaans and English in the same classes) from Gr 10 to Gr 12.

Curro Junior Academies are either English or English and Afrikaans medium.

Meridian Private Schools are English medium.

  • WHAT CURRICULUM DO THE SCHOOLS FOLLOW?

Curro Private Schools' and Meridian Private Schools' curriculum is in line with the South African National Curriculum, but is managed and enhanced by the Curro Centre for Educational Excellence.

  • WHICH GRADES TO THE SCHOOLS ACCOMMODATE?

Although each Curro Private School and Meridian Private School is different for various reasons, the Curro and Meridian models make provision for learners as follows:

Early Childhood Development Centres:  3 months to the year in which children turn 4.
Pre-Primary: Gr RR and Gr R for children turning 5 and 6 respectively.
Primary School / Foundation Phase: Gr 1 to Gr 3.
Primary School / Intermediate Phase: Gr 4 to Gr 6.
High School / Senior Phase: Gr 7 to Gr 9.
High School / FET (Further Education and Training) Phase: Gr 10 to Gr 12.

Curro Junior Academies and Meridian Junior Academies accommodate learners from 3 months to Gr R.

  • DO THE SCHOOLS HAVE AFTERCARE AND HOLIDAY CARE FACILITIES?

Yes. Curro Private Schools and Meridian Private Schools have Aftercare and Holiday Care Facilities. Fees are determined by the various schools.

  • WHAT IS THE ENROLMENT PROCEDURE?

  • DO THE SCHOOLS OFFER SPORT?

  • WHICH MATRIC EXAMINATION DO THE GRADE 12 LEARNERS WRITE?

Curro Private Schools' Gr 12 learners write the Independent Examinations Board exam.  Please visit the IEB for further details.

Meridian Private Schools' Gr 12 learners write the National Senior Certificate exam.

  • DO THE SCHOOLS HAVE A FINANCIAL SCALE OF FEES FOR FAMILIES WITH MORE THAN ONE CHILD IN A SCHOOL?

Curro Private Schools and Meridian Private Schools do not have a fixed scale, but individual needs can be negotiated with the COO / CFO. The schools do offer discount for families with three or more children in the school.

  • DO LEARNERS WEAR A SCHOOL UNIFORM?

  • HOW DO THE SCHOOLS HANDLE DISCIPLINE?

  • DO THE SCHOOLS PROVIDE TRANSPORT?

Certain Curro Private Schools and certain Meridian Private Schools provide transport. Please visit the various schools for further details.

  • DO THE SCHOOLS HAVE CATCHMENT AREAS?

No. Curro Private Schools and Meridian Private Schools accept learners from all areas.

  • WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN CURRO PRIVATE SCHOOLS AND MERIDIAN PRIVATE SCHOOLS?

Curro: Maximum of 25 learners per class.
Meridian: Average of 35 learners per class.

Curro: English or English & Afrikaans medium.
Meridian: English medium.

Curro: Once-off, non-refundable enrolment fee of at least R3 000.
Meridian: Once-off, non-refundable administration fee of R300.

Curro: School fees starting at R1 100 in the lower grades, increasing in the higher grades.
Meridian: School fees of R1 350.

Curro: IEB exam at the end of Gr 12.
Meridian: National Senior Certificate exam at the end of Gr 12.

Curro: Wide choice of school uniform.
Meridian: Basic choice of school uniform.

Curro: Wide choice of school subjects.
Meridian: Subject choice based on the South African National Curriculum.

Curro: Wide choice of sporting activities.
Meridian: Basic school sport.

Curro: Wide choice of cultural activities.
Meridian: Limited choice of cultural activities.
