Feed a child-headed home
This is a new, exciting initiative! We are looking for 50 Waterstone families who will commit to donating eight grocery hampers a year for child-headed homes in our community.
A basic grocery list will be given to you and you will be asked to drop off the hamper at Mrs A’s classroom.
Hampers should cost in the region of R200 per hamper.
On weekday mornings, moms from Waterstone go to Lerato School to help learners to learn to read.
This programme started last year and we are excited about the possibilities that lie ahead this year.
On Thursdays we ask learners to bring an extra peanut butter or jam sandwich to school for the feeding scheme that we run at Elethu Themba School. Our moms also butter and deliver bread on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. During one week in November we will ask for donations of cupcakes to be given out with the bread.
Cake and candy sales
These will be run twice this year to raise money for charity. We would ask the grades below to please donate cupcakes etc.:
Hot chocolate sales

Second-hand clothing drives and sports clothing/shoes/equipment
These drives will be run three times during the year:

Projects that will run once during the year
Term 1 - Easter Drive
All classes will be asked to bring Easter eggs that will be distributed to the ground staff for their children, to the elderly and to the underprivileged. The foundation phase will also have the opportunity to pay R10 and enter the ‘Easter Fun Hats’ competition (more info will follow).
Term 3 - Mandela Day Initiative
We will be doing a special initiative during the first week of the third term. Learners will be asked to contribute R67 (not compulsory) and will participate in organising food parcels for the needy.
Learners are encouraged to donate second-hand stationery at the end of the fourth term.
School Shoe Drive
Learners are given the opportunity to hand in their old school shoes as they leave school on the last day of the fourth term. There is a huge need for school shoes at Lerato School, so if your kids grow out of theirs during the year, please feel free to send them at any time.
Ground Staff Christmas Parcel
All learners will be encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to spoil our ground staff for Christmas.
