CURRO CASTLE SERENGETI FACILITIES

Our school consists out of two main sections with forms the framework of our teaching model.

 a.   The Nursery

 Children in the nursery section of our school are between the ages of 3 (from 2016) and 30 months. These leaners are still very little and there are various milestones that they must reach in each group to be able to join the more formal learning programme.

We here at Curro Castle Serengeti divide our learners into age appropriate groups, so that they can develop and reach each and every milestone.

The Nursery consists out of the following groups:

Group 1

3 to 12 months

Tiny stars

Group 1.5

12 to 18 months

Shiny and Shimmering stars

Group 2

18 to 24 months

Bright and Twinkle stars

Group 2.5

24 to 30 months

Galaxy and Milky way stars

Please note that our group/class room placement for the nursery section of the castle works in 6 monthly cycles.

For example, a child that is 3 months old in January will be placed in the group 1 classroom and will remain there for the remainder of the year. A child that is 6 months in January will be placed in the group 1 classroom and will in June of the same year be placed in the group 1.5 classroom, this is to ensure that all developmental milestones are reached and furthermore to ensure that all equipment and the curriculum program remains age appropriate.

The above will be modelled throughout our nursery. Please note that the group 2.5 and 3’s are combined in the learning programme.

 Group 2.5

Between the age of 2 and 3 years we normally find learners whose birth date occurs in the first six months of the year, to be off nappies, while those whose birthdays are later, usually still needs potty training and comfort items such as bottles, dummies, cuddling items, etc. Learners will therefore join our group 2.5 classes after turning 24 months in January or in June of each year into this group just before leaving the nursery and therefore this specific classroom can also be referred to as the potty training classroom, with this in place our learners are made ready for the more formal phase of schooling. (Please refer to our potty training manual that is available from any of our nursery teachers or at the office).

After six months they can move to the higher age groups, for more exposure to them for educational purposes. By that time the learners will usually have reached a certain level of independence and should be at ease with the school routine.

 Please note:

  • All children are expected to adapt to the nursery routine that is displayed on the door of each room.
  • We record all details to allow us to share with parents their child’s day at nursery, what they have eaten and drank, the times of their nappy changes and sleeps and what experiences they have been involved in.
  • Our entire nursery is offered a wide range of activities to encourage and stimulate their natural curiosity.

 b.   The School

Learners are divided into their age groups according to their age and according to the year they turn 3, 4 and 5 years of age. Keep in mind that the learners that turn 3 only after June they will be in our Nursery department for the first two terms as stipulated above.

 The school consists out of the following groups: 

Group 3

Learners age:

2 years and 6 months, turning 3 between Jan and Jun or Jun and Dec.

White, Silver, Lime and Golden stars

Group 4

Learners age:

3 turning 4 anytime during the particular year.

 

Red, Orange, Yellow and Brown stars

Group 5

Learners age:

4 turning 5 anytime during the particular year.

 

Blue, Green, Purple and Bronze stars.

 Please note:

  • All activities are planned using the six learning areas, as stipulated in the Curro Castle curriculum program and is overseen and revised by the Curro Castle head.
  • The Curro Nursery School Curriculum is used as a guideline for all structured activities that takes place in the Castle.
  • Progress reports are sent out in June and December.

Parents are welcome to come and discuss the progress reports with the educators at any time by appointment or on our formal parent evenings that will be on our calendar at least once every term.
