If my child is only going to start at the school in a couple of years' time, do I need to apply now?
Yes, it would be wise to complete application forms and hand them in soon. The forms will go on a waiting list and they will be processed the year before your child is due to start at the school. The acceptance fee needs to be paid only once the forms have been processed.
Why do fees differ from school to school?
Curro schools, Meridian schools, Curro Castle nursery schools, Curro Academy schools and Curro select schools are based on different models and operating structures and fees therefore vary vastly between these five types of schools.
Fees within each type of school also vary from school to school. Fees are determined by the following factors:
The cost at which the land was acquired. At certain schools, developers provide certain sections of the school campus at no cost, in which case reduced fees are possible.
Construction costs. The costs of constructing nursery schools, primary schools, high schools and hostels vary tremendously. The area and actual terrain also influence construction costs.
Language of teaching and learning and subject choices. Single or double-medium instruction and subjects offered in the FET phase affect operating costs. Not all schools offer exactly the same subjects in the FET phase. More subjects result in increased fees.
Operational costs. Water, electricity and taxes vary from area to area, influencing fees.
Demographics. Before Curro Holdings Ltd invests in a certain area, a demographics study is done to determine earning power, growth potential and industrial growth. Conclusions from these studies determine fees to ultimately ensure that all risks are excluded and that the school is in a position to function successfully on its own.
Do you offer scholarships?
No, not initially. Scholarships are not provided for new schools.
What is the class size?
Curro Academies have a maximum of 35 learners per class.
Is the school only for Wilgeheuwel residents?
No, it is open to everyone.
How do we go about buying school uniforms?
There will be a Clothing Concept Lounge at the school with one of every item in every size. You can try on the clothes and then order them online, using your family code to access the My Hub online store. The clothes will be delivered to your home or to the school.
Is there a discount for more than one child?
The Curro company policy for 2nd, 3rd and 4th child enrolment for a Curro school is:
- Second child – no discount
- 3rd and 4th child – 10%
Annual up-front payment of school fees gets a 5% discount.
What age should my child start school?
The recommended ages are as follows:
Grade R - the year the child turns 6
Grade 1 - the year the child turns 7
Do I still pay an enrolment fee if I am transferring from another CURRO school?
I have enrolled my child but have not received my invoice from head office.
It may take a few days or even a week – applications for all schools are rolling in and keeping the data capturers very busy!
