7. Which Matric examination do you write?

Currently, the National Education Department examination as administered by the Provincial Education Departments.

8. Do you consider the Independant Examinations Board (IEB) examination as an option?

We have been considering the IEB as an option since 2006.  The IEB is an additional Matric examination and not a curriculum.  We have extensively researched the pro's and con's of the IEB and are currently still strongly considering a change to having our Matrics write this exam.  The fact that the first Matrics wrote the new Outcomes-Based Curriculum (OBE) in 2008 was an important factor in us not changing to the IEB as well.  Having teachers dealing with two changes simultaneously, ie. the IEB and OBE, was considered too much of a burden on teachers as well as learners.

Curro Hazeldean has now taken the first bold step towards implementing this exam.  They will start with their Grade 9's in 2009, writing the CTA's, administered by the IEB.  These Grade 9's will be their first Matrics writing the IEB in 2012.  The other Curro schools will be following the same route, phasing in the IEB over a period of three years.  The phasing in period is important to prepare learners and teachers sufficiently.

Watch the Holdings website for further developments on the IEB.

9. Do you have a financial scale for fees for more than one child?

We don't have a fixed scale, but individual needs can be negotiated with the Director of Finance.

10.  Do learners wear a school uniform?

Yes.  See the Dress Code for more information.

11. How do you handle discipline?

Through a formal Code of Conduct.

Did you know?

The Curro Schools are currently the most affordable private schools in South Africa.

Curro is constantly expanding.  We have already identified several sites throughout South Africa for the building of new schools.  These include Witbank, Mossel Bay and Hermanus.

Curro schools are combined schools.  This means that pupils do not have to decide on a high school when leaving Grade 7.

At Curro the focus is on delivering excellent education.  Our curriculum is fully accredited as it conforms to the Umalusi scope drawn up by the Department of Education.

We are parallel medium schools, offering our subjects in Afrikaans and English.
