Curro Schools, nationally, and including Mossel Bay, have started on a major drive to knit squares for blankets to, eventually, be passed on to people in need. We are thrilled with the response of our students, their parents and others – support has been wonderful!!! This is an important way in which we are encouraging our students to develop a social conscience and to participate in activities which will benefit those less privileged than ourselves. We would like to continue to encourage all who form a part of the Curro family make a really positive effort in order that this broad educational opportunity can be a roaring success. At the same time we can place smiles on faces where there would otherwise be despair and hopelessness. We appreciate and value the support of our students, parents and that of our community. These efforts will go a long way towards ensuring the success of this worthwhile project.
Our sporting facilities are now really reaching the standards that we expect from an institution of excellence such as Curro Mossel Bay. The rugby fields, hockey field will soon be the envy of all, and it is wonderful to see our young sportsman spread out over the school sportsfields making full use of the space on offer! And, of course, the tennis courts are forming the foundation for a start towards top tennis for a number of the Curro players. Exciting plans are in the pipeline for Curro tennis and we are looking forward to making a substantial contribution to South African tennis in the not-so-distant future!
We were pleased with the results that our students achieved in the International Benchmarking Tests which were written towards the end of 2011. It was interesting to compare their achievements with those of other students in South Africa as well as with those of students in a number of other countries across the world. It is pleasing to report that, in general Curro Mossel Bay results compared extremely favourably with results from candidates from sophisticated first world countries. A number of Curro Mossel Bay scholars excelled – gaining certificates to recognise distinctions and honours achieved. The IBT’s were a wonderful opportunity to measure ourselves against standards set by- independent educational experts outside the South African systems. Good use will be made of feedback received – once again adding value to the opportunities offered to students of Curro Mossel Bay.
We continue to looking forward to a fantastic term two – with the support of our parent community and our supporters in a more general sense. Our educators are certainly ready for the challenges and fun that lie ahead and our students will once again make us proud!
